OCCASIONALLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q Who are your favourite artists/influences?

A I admire many artists;  my heroes are Rembrandt Van Rijn; Diego Velasquez and Anthony Van Dyck.

Of the more 'recent' painters, I enjoy Salvador Dali, Gustav Klimt and Burton Silverman.

Q Do you accept sittings or do you prefer to have a few good photographs as a reference?

A I prefer to use photographs as they are more convenient for both me and the customer.

I will happily agree to do a formal sitting, though these will cost a little more. Please note, I will still take a few photographs anyway so I can work away from the sitter. This can be discussed via email.

Q How long does it take before I receive a painting?

A This can vary: the size of the painting and complexity can make an artwork quite time consuming. Also the number of paintings I am working on that time can be a bit of a wait.

I can prioritise a painting to finish it in time for a particular date, though it is important to understand that oil paint dries very slowly, so even if I complete the painting in a just a few days, it might take well over a week for the paint to dry - obviously, I cannot post the artwork if it is too wet.

If you need a painting ASAP, I can paint it in fast-drying acrylics for you.

Q How do I commission a painting?

A See my commissions page. I will email you back and walk you through the steps involved, answering any questions you might have.

If you confirm you want the work done, we can then exchange telephone numbers. If you request it, I  will keep you updated on the progress.

*I do not publish my phone number on my site as I get constant harassment from cold-callers trying to sell me services I don't want!

Q Can I request any special customisations to my painting? For example, specific backgrounds; clothing; objects etc. Portraits based on famous paintings?

A You can have almost anything you like - I will price accordingly.

Q How do I make payments for my artwork?

A  I will require a deposit before I begin, which will count as 1/4 of the final price. The deposit is none refundable; the other 3/4 is.

You can make a bank transfer or if you are local, you can pay with cash or by card. I do not accept cheques.

Q Do you post any purchased artwork?

A Yes. Email me for more information.

Q Do you offer a discount for school murals?

A  Yes, I offer a 15% discount for both local primary and secondary schools.

Q  How far are you willing to travel to paint a mural?

A It depends on what it is. I won't travel halfway across the country to paint the Tazmanian devil or Muran Buchstansanger on a bedroom wall, but if it is a large, prestigious, commercial mural, for example, I would be more willing to travel further afield.

Q Can I buy prints of your paintings?

A  Yes. Email me for further information.

Q Why is the quote for my family portrait so high compared to that one of Worzel Gummidge you painted for me?

A Simply because there is a lot more work involved. If I paint one Worzel I only have to worry about painting one nose, one mouth and one pair of eyes. If Aunt Sally gets in on it, I now have to paint two noses, two pairs of eyes and two pairs of ears etc. Add in the Crowman and Worzel's many interchangeable heads and you have much more work involved.

If you want a massive painting featuring all your extended scarecrow family, it would be a huge, time-consuming undertaking and the price would have to reflect that.

Q Do you supply commercial art? Book covers, illustrations, album covers etc.?

A Email with any ideas you have.
